Curricular Goal

Participants will acquire a knowledge of the diagnosis and management of new onset libido problems in the context of female aging as related to contemporaneous factors, hormones, and the evidence for current treatments

Educational Objectives

1. Definitions of arousal, orgasm, and hypoactive sexual desire disorder

2. Understand the multidimensional nature of female sexuality

3. Understand the impact of stress, environment, interpersonal, and sociocultural factors on sexual desire with a focus on the mid life to older woman

4. Know the limitations of current randomized control trial research on the effects of Estrogen and Testosterone replacement on libido

5. Treatment approaches for this woman

Overview

There continues to be an enormous menopausal population with increasing complaints related to aging and sexual function. There remains an ongoing need for education on the differential diagnosis, work up and treatment for women who complain of new onset sexual function problems, specifically related to desire/libido.

Accreditation/Credit Designation

ACCME is provided by Starfish Associates, a CMA-accredited provider for continuing medical education in Category 1 toward the California Medical Association's Certification in Continuing Medical Education. American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) are also providing CME. The AAFP invites comments on any activity that has been approved for AAFP CME credit.
